Good VS Bad Website Smackdown

For this final smackdown I decided to choose two websites that sell concert tickets and compare them. The first website I chose is Ticketmaster. This is my good website because it clearly meets the requirements of a reliable and trustworthy site. The website features links to popular and upcoming events and categories for different events. Ticketmaster also features very striking pictures of the artists they sell tickets for. I am able to easily search for my preferred type of ticket, and also, I can customize the location for my personal area. Overall, this website meets all the requirements of being a good website. The bad website I chose is called "Bubbas Got Tickets". This site does not meet the requirements of a usable site. This is evident in the first look at the website. It does feature some pictures of a reel, however they are not specific to the tickets the website is selling. Instead, it shows a basketball for basketball tickets, or a picture of the word "Th

Story Telling Tools

In this week’s blog, the topic to be discussed is story telling with web 2.0 tools. These tools are very fun and useful in many different ways. These story telling tools include sites like Toondoo, Pixton and Piclit. In my future career as a health care professional, I may not use these tools often but they can become useful for educating patients on different topics. These story telling tools can potentially bridge a gap in health literacy and can give patients an effective way to understand various health concerns. These are my two ToonDoos I also utilized the site Pixton to create another type of story telling tool  Lastly I utilized PicLit to create a different but still effective and useful type of story telling tool I found these tools to be very useful and creative. Do you think there are additional ways to utilize these platforms? If so, what are they?

Chapter 4 of the Connected Educator discusses building our online communities and discovering better connections. This is hugely important to being successful in your career. This chapter has two main focuses, congeniality and collegiality. Although these as very similar sounding words they have very important, individual meanings. Congeniality is defined as polite, warm relationships developed with one another. These friendships can be as simple as friendly conversations, or can be more meaningful like going to events together. These types of relationships are important for life in general, and generate happiness. Collegiality then, is specifically in the work environment where you are friendly with your coworkers and you get along with your bosses. This allows for a thriving workplace because everyone can work as one unit. The main focus of collegiality is that everyone is on the same playing field, and a smooth operation relies on everyone working as a team. Personally, I use both

Kidblog is a platform that was founded in 2007 to connect students, teachers, and parents to the classroom for an all-inclusive education. The website is geared to elementary and middle school kids specifically. This website allows for students to publish their writing, audio, visual, or video projects. It also allows teachers to create a class blog as a way to communicate with parents. Teachers are able to include parents in important information regarding their children. This can include things like information about daily happenings in the classroom, upcoming deadlines, and learning tips for students. Teachers also have the ability to use Kidblog as a digital portfolio, which could grow with students from year to year within the same school district. Kidblog has many different imortant features like privacy adjustments, allowing anyone from the students and parents to view content, up to the general public. It is also very easy to create a blog by allowing the teacher to implement

Chapter 5

Image
Chapter 5 of the book, "The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in a Digital Age", continues on the topic of connected learning, but goes much more in depth on internet tools that can be used to support this. These tools cover a wide range, including some of the most well-known platforms like Blogger, WordPress, Twitter, Tumblr, and Google Docs. These tools can aid the development of connected learning communities. Also, doing so is fairly easy because "you do not need to be a web expert to take advantage of these tools—many of them are used widely because they are easy to use" (Hall & Nussbaum-Beach). It helps, as well, that technology is such a big and important part of our lives already, through social media, so many already have a basic understanding of using technology in their personal lives.  Having access to, and understanding of these tools can make a big impact in the quality of your connected learning. For example, the chapter talks about d

Chapter 2 of "The Connected Educator"

In chapter 2 of the book "The Connected Educator" the author begins to discuss the extensive topic of developing a connected learning model. The author says, "In connected learning communities, colleagues develop shared visions, common goals, and beliefs around principled change"  (Nussbaum-Beach, 2012) .  These communities can be developed online as well and be filled with not only local, but global colleagues and connections. This allows for even more achievement within a field. By interacting with others in this connected community platform, professionals will also get a first had look at the diversity in their field. This is another important topic covered in this chapter, as the author discusses how diversity is a major part of the professional world. Personal networks encourage diversity and learning new and different ideas from those different from yourself. These are experiences that you may have never had otherwise. Collaborating in these types

Post 1 - Building Your Connected Learning Community

In Chapter 6 of The Connected Educator, the author, Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, discusses the importance of developing and progressing an online presence in a world of constantly changing and increasing technology and information. Nussbaum- Beach also highlights that building connections through this technology should not lessen the quality of relationship versus one in real life. Despite the interaction not being face-to-face, this is still a vital aspect to creating an online presence and can provide many benefits when networking. Having a strong foundation and presence on online websites is a major key to a success with your Personal Learning Network. Nussbaum-Beach also makes a point that is okay to be selective when deciding who to interact with, as a beginner at building a PLN. A great solution to this is looking at who someone else is following, then determining whether or not you both have shared interests. The process of beginning and growing your PLN is not based on how big or
